YJ to TJ

I have been wanting to upgrade to a TJ. I have been looking at a 2003 and a 2005. Both are similarly equipped with the 4.0L motor and the manual transmission.

The difference is the 2005 is a 6-speed and the 2003 is a 5-speed. of course the 2005 is two years newer and has less miles but forget all that.

Is the 2005 with the 6-speed that much better than the 2003 with the 5-speed? We all know that the 2005 is going to cost more but is it worth the price?

Please help me make an educated decision. Thank you.

it is a "6 in 1, half dozen in the other" kind of situation. which one do you like better (looks, features, mileage, etc.)? i have an 05, and i love it, but i would have loved an 03 just the same. when i bought my jeep in 05, there were 2 that i liked one was green with auto trans, the other orange with manual. i went with the green auto, but i sometimes kick myself for not going with the orange one (i LOVED the color). as long as you want a jeep (and except its short comings) you will be extremely happy with either choice.

I like them both. They are both equipped the same. I like the color of the 2003 better. The only real difference is the transmission (5-speed verses 6-speed). You can not really tell much during a test drive.

I was just wanting to know if the 6-speed offered a significant advantage over the 5-speed over time and would justify the additional cost of purchase?

I was leaning toward the 2003 5-speed because of cost but could afford the payments of the 2005 6-speed if it offer any advantage over the 2003 5-speed.
