Question Your Opinions: 15x8 or 15x10?

I'm looking into getting some new wheels this spring.
The ones I'm most interested in are the Black DC-1's.
I'm confused on which size to go with though...15x8 or 15x10??

Let me give you some info:
Right now I have 33x12.50's on 15x10 Eagle Alloys.
Still have lots of tread left, so I intend to keep these tires for some time.
At some point, I may like to try a 35" tire.
I don't do any MAJOR wheeling,
but I am in the woods pretty much every weekend.

Someone at the local 4x4 shop told me that having 33x12.50's with 15x10's is putting alot of unnecessary strain on my front components in comparison to having 15x8's.
Is this true?
If so, it makes me wonder why the previous owner did this.
Looks?
Wider stance...stability?
Would I loose any stability by switching to a 15x8?
Which is recommended/better and why?

If anyone has these wheels in 15x8 OR 15x10, please post some pics.
Along with hearing all the facts,
I'd like to see the visual difference myself as well, before making any decisions.

For 33x12.5, I'd absolutely go with 15x8 vs 15x10 . . . not sure though about which would be better with 35s.

I have those wheels in a 15x10's and they look great with the Bushwhacker fender flares. I would post pictures but I do not know how lol

"Borrow" yeah!
I think you know better than to "borrow" for me.

Yeah...I'm seriously considering it man.
That just pushes more to the back burner though if I do, ya know?
Gotta make a choice though.
My wallet won't allow me to have it all...lol.

If you wouldn't mind asking them, I'd like to hear their reasoning.
Seriously.
I just want to make the right decision.
That's a decent chunk of change to just piss away, if ya know what i mean.

This info might help . . .

15x8 vs. 15x10 wheels - JeepForum.com

15X8 vs. 15X10 - Jeepin.com Forums

Sounds like the 8's are less likely to pop a bead when running low tire pressure and will protect the rim better when aired down too. Seems like 12.5 is the deciding point though so if you are planning to stay at or under 12.5, you'd probably want to stick with the 8's, but if you plan to go with 35x13.5 or something wider in the future, the 10s would probably be the way to go.

I ran 15x10's with 35x12.50's and never had an issue.. air down a little less, as with the 15x10 the contact patch is a bit wider to start with. Never lost a bead and ran in mud and rocks. That being said, the popular theory is the tire will stay on a 15x8 better than an 10" at lower psi's. I also ran 12.50s on 15x8's and didn't have an issue. As for more stress on the steering.. a lot of factors will be on that.. tire size, weight of rims etc.. not just how wide your rim is. Thus, if you want a wide tire look go with the 10", if you prefer a closer in look get the 8's.

x3 ^^^ 8's will weigh less, they are a great width for 12.5" tires, and they cost less. 10's if you are going wider than 12.5" tires. If it were me, and I could afford to, I'd keep my 10" wheels in case I went to 35's later, if I wanted wider tires. Mount my 33x12.5's on the new 8" wheels and be happy!

Thanks for all your responses, and thanks for the links Schmo.

What I've gathered is if I'm going to be airing down and doing alot of wheel'n, the 15x8 would probably be the best way to go.
However for me, as stated before, I'm not a heavy duty wheeler.
I'm really inbetween when it comes to this stuff.
I do alot of street driving, but still enjoy going out to the woods every weekend.
Which is also why I have AT's instead of MT's.
That brings me to my next question:

In one of the links that Schmo posted,
it's being said that a 15x10 will do better on the street with more even tire wear with a flatter contact surface, yet can still be used fine for offroad as long as they are not aired down quite as much and being used for heavy duty applications.
Being as I do more street driving than offroad,
it sounds like the 15x10 may be the better way to go for me.
Do you agree?
And how do you feel about their tire wear comments?

As for the wider stance causing unnecessary wear to the front end:
I know it's more than just the width of the wheel, but I'm sure it doesn't help any right?
On this particular brand, the 15x10 also weighs 5lbs more than the 15x8.
Does anyone think it would make THAT much difference in wear to front end parts to even let it be a factor in my decision?

I currently have 15x10 on my stock 99 TJ. I just bought it this winter but with stock flares it constantly throws stuff all over the side of the jeep. I am thinking about switching to 8's because I don't want crap being thrown on me when the doors and top are off, especially if I am taking the kids for a ride.
Mine is stock so I don't want to put some monster flares on it, if it was lifted I might but not right now.

X10 on the 15x8 recommendations. 15x10 is fine for street use but if you also offroad, go with 15x8. 15x8 has an easier time keeping the tire seated when it is aired down than a 15x10 wheel does. The wider the wheel, the more air pressure the tire needs to stay seated.

8's will sit outside your stock flares too, depending on the backspace. Depends how wide a tire you want.

33 x 12.50 go with 15 x 8
35 x 12.50 go with 15 x 10.

I have both set with pictures.
