Exclamation zippers on the soft top!!!!

my back windoow this summer, the passenger slide broke in half. gave me a reason to buy the summer top, now that its gettin a lil cold, i found a place in NY that sales the slides for jeeps, and they look more heavy duty an are the same size. im tryin to put my back window back in, but got two things holdin me up.

1. i dont know if i need to take the driver side slide out to put the other in.
2. which ways they go in

its been a while so if anyone could help me out, i would greatly appreciate it.

Question Soft Top Zippers

I had trouble with my rear window zipper (passenger side pulled apart about half way up). I talked to my local shoe repair shop (they also repair luggage damaged by the airlines) about repairing the zipper and they did! The point is, think outside the box. There are all kinds of ways to repair things. My local soft top shop wouldn't touch my broken zipper!

Does anyone have an idea of how long a Jeep soft top should last? My '04 soft top seems to be in good shape so far - just curious about average life span?

I have a 2002 and my soft top has taken a beating; lived in Fla for 5 years and now Colorado - neither time in a garage. The stitching is falling apart and the zippers have had many problems. So I'm going to say from experience that they last 7 years. Maybe longer if you have a garage.

I'm not positive I understand the question, badrubi03. It should be pretty obvious which way the side panels and rear window go on. Do you need to take the driver's side side window out to install the rear window panel? No.

But sometimes with a new panel, it helps to give it a lot of slack - so it might help to take the side out first. It won't hurt anything.

juslimin: How long will a top last?
Bestop would recommend replacement every four or five years, as the metal bits get fatigued, and things won't fit as well. But keep in mind that we like to sell tops. Some people around here are running tops that are almost old enough to drive.

Maybe we should be like that gum commercial, and have a team that runs around destroying tops. We'd start at Jerry Bransford's place. His Jeep needs a new top, but he keeps refusing to buy one.
