ZJ Tie rod Swap

Is the ZJ Tie Rod swap just a direct bolt on? No modification

To add another question to this. Since the ZJ tie rod is a direct bolt in and an excellent upgrade what is a comparable drag link? I know the DL from the ZJ is the exact same as what is on the TJ now. I would like a bit more strength in the dl as well.

Im getting ready to do this upgrade, I got all the parts sitting on the floor board of jeep just havent installed them yet. I ordered mine thru advanced auto parts online, they were running a promo but i think it might of expired, there might be another promo code "visa" i think it might of been. search the forum youll find it. its a pretty good discount and free shipping. i think someone said they got all the parts for $110 shipped.. I paid $137 shipped. All moog parts.
As far as the drag link, im gonna leave my stock one, its already a solid rod, imo i think it will be fine.

The drag link is not the problem and is strong enough for most Jeeps with big tires. Before you remove your stock tie rod, measure the distance between the grease zerks and setup the replacement at the same measurement. That will get you real close to make the alignment easier.

Do a google product search for "v8 ZJ tie rod" you might be surprised just how cheap the upgrade can be.

Just bought a True Hi9 rear and a D44 front, both with ARB's and 4.88 gears!! Check out the build!

A setup like that will add strength to DL and TR, but will create bumpsteer. I'm not sure how they can claim "minimal "bump steer", if at all, because we paid attention to the angles ". If you look at their picture all the angles look like they will create bumpsteer.

Yeah see I just cannot justify to myself spending $650 for that. The ZJ tie rod is only going to run me $7 from the boneyard.

But it still uses the small stock tie rod ends.

I bought the Crown HD Tie Rod Kit, but in hindsight I'd probably go with Moog. One of the members on this forum found a good deal on Moog ZJ tie rod, TRE's, and drag link from Advance Autoparts.

That would be great if you could post the amazon part numbers for everyone.

Nice find on the amazon parts. It appears you can get pretty close to exactly the same price on either site......

Moog part numbers are:
DS1312
ES3096L
ES2079S

Came to a total of $103.97 with free shipping online at advance using coupon code "VISA" and a total of $105.48 with free shipping on amazon.

Just did my zj tie rod upgrade. Advance has a promo running for 20 percent off and you get a 50 dollar off your next purchase of 100 or more if you order online. Plus I used the code visa I think the total was around 105 and I picked it up in store that day.

I'd like to do the zj tie-rod swap, and haven't found any at junk yards. When ordering online at a parts store, does it matter which engine? Also, what all do I need besides the actual rod and the two ends? Will that do it? Thanks.

It has to be the v8. I found the rite rid in a junk yard for 8 bucks and bought a new TRE for piece of mind. The drag link is the same so don't bother with that.

Just just one quick question does this just replace the one on the bottom, what about the one that connects to the pitman arm?
