Zone vs Old man Emu

I'm going to buy a lift for Christmas and have narrowed my search down to these two lift companies. I would like to know what everybody thinks is a better company. I want either the ome 2.5 or the Zone 3 inch lifts. Thanks in advance for any help. I have 31s now but will probably buy 33s when these wear out.

Neither of those will be enough for 33" tires without also adding a 1" body lift. Quality and ride-wise, the OME and its Nitrocharger shocks has it all over the Zone in my personal opinion.

I knew I would have to eventually buy a body lift. But is the ome worth the extra 300$

I ran a 3'' OME lift on my Tacoma and it rode better than the stock suspension (and it was a 2011) I plan on running OME when I lift my TJ but that won't be till next summer.

I'm sure some guys running OME will chime in and let you know how it rides on a TJ.

33's are fit in two common ways on TJ's:

1. 4" suspension lift, with ~2" bumpstop extensions in front and ~2.5" in the rear. Requires a SYE/CV shaft.
2. 2.5" suspension lift, with a 1.25" body lift, with ~1-1.25" bumpstop extensions in front and ~1.25-1.5" in the rear. The 1.25" BL usually accompanies a 1" Motor Mount Lift to offset some of the driveline angles.

Either way you go, figure on some or many of the following components: longer front brake lines, extended sway bar links front and rear, gears, brake and steering upgrades to accommodate larger tires, SYE, CV shaft, bumpstop extensions, new shocks, adjustable track bars, and a rear track bar bracket.

If you notice the details, yes. Also note no kit is anywhere near complete. It's basically just springs and shocks. See above.

stop thinking in terms of kits and start thinking in terms of components.

don't focus on one company...identify the components needed to do what you want to do. Buy good quality components from the places/companies that have the right stuff at the right price.

I've got parts from OME, JKS, Rokmen, Currie, Crown Automotive, Savvy Off-Road, Advance Adapters, Rubicon Express, Performance Accessories, JeepMedic, and lots of homemade stuff.

I installed the OME with a 1" body lift on my TJ and am running 33's no problem. Outstanding ride.

No one has actually said it IMO...I HAD BFG 31's on stock suspension......added OME lift Great improvement to the smoothness of my ride!!! Drove it 2 years like that.

Recently added JKS MML and BL. Bushwaker flat flares, 33x 12.50 x15 Duratracs on soft 8s..and Zone quick Discos......feels like I got a brand new Jeep!! It rides as well or better than my '12 JK (with 26-28 psi) 4wd not needed near as much as before when off road. But I still need a "tummy tuck" for that factory skid.....keep pulling mud out/ home with me..

That is the ONLY change I want now....it is a great DD and performs well for the type of wheeling available around here!!

What OME lift did you use, the heavy or light?

I have after market bumpers and while I PROBABLY didn't need it I went with the heavy....it doesn't get much lighter than my Jeep...soft half top....no back seat...spare is inside the tub...I have stripped out all I can and still be legal/ light weight.

I went with the heavy thinking I would get more lift/ stonger/ longer spring....I was wrong springs same length...heavy or light defines the Stiffness of the spring and the reaction of the rig to weight....but I do like it!!!

In my opinion zone is the better option. I have the 3" nitro and it rides way better than before. With TJs, anything new is gonna be 20 times better than the old factory stuff you've got on there now.

With such a small lift it really isn't going to matter. Pay less for the bigger lift and spend the 300 on say new bumpers and the 33"s.

Don't forget that you'll prolly want a new rear bumper when you get the 33" spare to accommodate for the weight. It can be done other ways but the new bumper/tire Carrier is you safest bet. (Just another reason to choose the cheaper lift)

If you really want a good deal and are sure you'll go to 33"s get the zone 4.25 combo lift. It's the 3" suspension lift plus a 1.25 body lift and a motor mount lift. If I could redo my lift ide do that in a heartbeat.

OME has about four different sets of springs for the front and rear. It's not just heavy or light. There are multiple options. You need to determine what you're looking for - how much weight you'll be caring (accessories, cargo, gear, passengers, winch, bumpers, etc). Ok, you have experience comparing Zone to worn out factory parts. That's a pretty low bar. Now, how does OME compare to Zone? Can you personally compare them?

I think I am going to go with the zone combo lift. I'll put the 3 inch lift on till I get bigger tires. Then I'll install the bl and mml. That probably won't look te best but it will be fine for now.

Yep another Jeeper friend of mine's father bought her the 2" OME lift kit. I really wasn't overly impressed. The difference was not even worth 100 dollars. Your just buying the name. They're both gonna wear out. It's just my opinion. Everyone has their own

Oh it'll look fine we've all gone through the lift/stock tires phase haha.

If I were you ide definitely put in a transfer case drop in the meantime so you don't get the vibrations. When you do the body lift/mml you can take out the tcase drop.

Don't spend much on the t case drop there are write ups on doing it with just washers and new bolts. That's what I have on right now. Exact same for 1/4 the price

Unlimitedlj04, I admire your valiant effort. Some people dont care about the details or about doing it right. Clearly the OP just wants a cheap lift for looks and doesnt care about performance or researching the right components to get. Keep posting your comments though, for those of us who do care about the details and about the specifics of doing a lift right, they don't go unread.

Hey, I'm pretty new to this site and still learning the lingo.
I'm still trying to decide on a lift myself, but it'll mainly be for the look, not a whole lot of offroading.
