1-let friends/family know where you are going and what time you plan to
be back
2-Fuel
3-Food
4-High lift Jack
5-Flash light
6-Water
7-Lighter or something to make fire
8-map of the area (if not familiar)
9-dry clothes
10-rope

Not in that order, but there are more things I always bring with me. Tools are a given, I always bring a knife/razor, and a gun with extra ammo depending where I am going

Why beer? Beer and driving does not mix... It's still illegal even off road.

THe other stuff I agree with.

It is not but if you are staying over night at a ohv park or doing some kind of expedition style travel where you stop drving at night.. then beer is good for that time period between sun down and sun rise..

That's why you bring coors light. If it was any closer to water you'd be in a boat.

HAHA. After being in Germany three years... All American beer is water.

Solar blanket is great too. Compact and perfect if you get stranded.

Boy I hate to sound like a cliche, but drinking a beer--responsibly--on some far flung forest service road in the wild wilderness is one of the last great American freedoms we have left...don't sell it short. It is a magnificent feeling.

To be perfectly honest... A whole friggin can of American brew isn't going to send you off the side of the road... But I repeat this constantly to my friends: There will be absolutely NO consumption of alcohol in my rig, regardless of whether or not you are of age, drinking responsibly, etc. etc. My rig, my rules.

The firearm is not what I take on the trail, it's what I take everywhere. Like my wallet, cell phone and pocket knife.
As far as a beer, I'm not sure about that. I've got friends that can think past their next one but for me water and if I need a tasty drink give me a soda.
Each to his own.
Just don't expect me to stick around if your a moron.

The stuff I try to remember when I go out:

Mechanics gloves
Iphone with Extra cell charger
At least two tow/yank ropes
Basic Craftsman Tool set
Extra Gas Can
Extra Water Can
Tire gauge
Jumper cables
AAA card
A second pair of comfortable shoes and socks

Everything else is nice to have but the above list has saved my butt quite a few times.
