1992 YJ (Islander) Soft doors to half/hard doors?

I'm new to the jeep thing. Granted, I used to be the primary driver on my parent's '88 cherokee, but that was several years ago.

I'm about to buy a '92 YJ Islander. It has soft doors, and I've been poking around the 'net for either half doors or full hard doors because England is a wet country, and I like the concept of getting a door that at least appears to be more secure.

Currently, it has soft doors, with a soft top that I'd never seen before on a jeep. The back end of the cover is flat, flush with the top of the body. Ie, it looks like a severely chopped pickup with roll bars.

In the extremely rare chance that I found some old jeeps in a salvage yard 'round these parts (Cambridge, UK), what models/years can I yank the doors off of?

Sounds like a tonneau cover with a bikini top. Does it have any kind of roof framework or is the top strapped to the roll bar?

If it is the bikini and duster type setup, you might need the whole works for real doors to be watertight and secure.

And welcome from across the pond!

any 1987-1995 will fit perfectly.

and i believe 1976-1986 CJ-7 doors will fit it as long as the door handles and strikers are the same.

good looking full doors will probably be hard to find. it took me forever to find my jeep some, in texas.

It's this one, the Halftop. The owner says he has the original softtop, too, and it's coming with the jeep if/when I buy it.

Only difference with this picture is the full length soft doors.

With a soft top I don't think it makes much differance what kind of door you have. I have both soft doors and hard half doors like in the pic above, I can't say I notice any difference in keeping the inside dry between them. If you want dry you are going to have to go with a hard top and full hard doors.

Dry doesn't matter so much as does the appearance of security. Then again, I'm not liable to ever have much of major value inside the jeep that isn't bolted down and loc-tited to death.

After a year of hard half doors and full soft doors I prefer the soft doors, lot easier to pop off and toss in the back when it's nice out. The hard halfs don't offer you anymore protection from anything so I sort of figure why bother. The wife's YJ has a hardtop and full doors in the winter and you can lock it and feel pretty secure, and it is quiter but it's not like driving a jeep if you ask me, more like a bad riding car
