Being a (relatively) new owner of a Jeep Wrangler (1990 Laredo, 6 cyl 4.2 carburated engine, automatic transmission) I have a question (which may very well have lots of different answers in many aspects)
I have an opportunity to get a 4.0 6 cyl fuel injected complete engine which came from a wrecked 1993 Wrangler. I am being told that, other than the newer engine being fuel injected, the swap should be straight-forward. Has anyone on the forum done anything similar, or knows of any major problems I might end up getting into? Thanks in advance for the information and feedback!!!

The swap would be pretty simple... the only difference being the fuel injection, and you'll need the electronics to go with it, meaning the O2 sensors, the fuel pump and lines, fuel rail and injectors. It's going to be a bit more work than just dropping it in. If you have the time and space, go for it.
Make sure and get the PCM from the 1993 if you can. May need as many electronics from it as you can get. If you can go completely 93' on the engines electrical components it will save a lot of headache.
Or, replace the top end with a carbureted 4.0 setup.
I am being told that the '93 engine is complete with computer, sensors, and so on and so forth.... if anything, the guy who is selling me the engine said that the check engine light on the '93 would appear as the shifter light on the 1990 dashboard because circuit differences but nothing major (I have an automatic)... Any other components that I should get from the store during the process (recommended new during a swap???)

I know theres more that you want to replace while in there... just can't think of it all. Do you have to replace all that? No, but its the best time to do it while the engine is being swapped.
In your guys opinion... Is the '93 a more powerful engiine / better gas mileage / better torque.... etc.... what are the main advantages to this swap? My own reasoning (the pro's) - supposedly better performance uphill and improved gas mileage.... anything else? any cons to this?
