454 swap into yj?

i tried doing a search on this and didnt find anything other then some good info on a 350 swap. I have a 454 i was planning on completely rebuilding. I already have 3/4 of the parts for the rebuild but someones offered me a good running built chevy 350 as an even swap for my 454 or offering me the motor for some $. is it possable to put a chevy big block in a yj? seems all i read about is small block swaps.

If you have the time and money you can do just about anything. I read in one of the 4x4 magazines about a guy who fit a magnum V-10 into his 95YJ. So ya I'll bet you can get that 454 in there.

Good luck with your swap.

Chris

i dont know if i am doing the swap. was more curious to see if it was done and how hard it was to do before i let the motor go. just one of those things if i was to sell the 454 id come across a thread or something about how its not much harder then a sb swap. I really dont think that its all that hard to do can use the same transmissions as the sb uses. by the looks of the engine bay ya could fit a decent sized motor in there but with the big block might havta use some block hugger headers.

I can't even immagine how one would squeeze all that motor into the engine compartment of a Wrangler along with radiator, etc. It would be like the old days of the Chevette where you jacked the motor up to change rear plugs.

Just exactly what do you intend to do with all that power? The question I would ask myself is how much stuff I was going to continually break with that weight and power in a light, swb wrangler.

I am envisioning a monster truck frame, 454 and appropriate drive train, 60's and a Wrangler tub sitting on top of it all. Not much else from the Wrangler would be useful....axles, trans, tc, brakes, frame............. It would be interesting to see.

I have run with a guy in Ontario that has a 454 in a "YJ". He is a mechanic and has lots of hours in it though. Everything fits, you just have to get a little creative with some of the plumbing.

Oh, so you aren't really putting a 454 in a wrangler. You are putting a wrangler around a 454.

I really dont want to trade my 454 for a 350 strait up. I just have too many new parts for the 454 rebuild. I have everything but new heads, rebuild kit, and i was planning on replacing the rods even though the ones in the motor are fine. I do have a new eagle crank, new edelbrock intake, new edelbrack cam and lifter set, a set of roller rockers, new chrome oil pan, new edelbrock valve covers and timing chain cover, plugs wires coil, flex plate, high flow edelbrock fuel pump, and if im not mistaken i got a edelbrock water pump too. like i said in other posts i had an old chevy truck i was building that went south on me (lost interest in it) and dont want to let this stuff just sit here collecting dust. If i was to trade this for a small block i would be interested in one for my vette but im looking for one in the 425hp range.
