4cyl to 6cyl

so here is the question, motor mounts do they match up if i was to go with a 4.0 and will i need to replace my computer or, would it just be easier to rip it all out toss a 4.2 in there that is carbed and an AX15 and us my transfer case. i know this has been asked before but i was kinda on a time crunch sry didnt have a chance to research it.

thanks in advance

dont waste your money on junk lifts, save a few extra pennies and get something good.

That's alot of trouble to go to a 6. Might as well go for a 350. I bet it would be cheaper.

Hey, I was thinking the samething. I Think if I was going to rip ot my old 2.5 I would not put a I6 back in. I would go with a V8 of some kind. I know that in some old Grand cherokees they have V8s if you wanted to stay all Jeep. But I know from a looking around the cheapist is the chevy or GMC 350 swap. You can even use the AX15. I dont know much more then that hope that helps a little.

I am fairly sure that you would have to get new motor mounts. New transmission, and while you are at it, put in fuel injection. Nothing worse then getting your front end pointing skyward, and your engine dieing, from lack of fuel. It is a costly transition either way. As some one else said on here about the last one that asked that question; "It would be cheaper to sell the one you have, and buy another Jeep with the I-6 already installed. If you have the time, and the mechanical ability, it would not be that bad. If you have to pay someone to do it, it would cost a bunch.

well i thought about the 350 and i can get one for dirt cheep but then its the whole axle dilema. thats more work then i want to put in right now and more money. that is why i wanted to stay with jeep I6 i loved my old one (245K same tranny clutch everything) and i know its not going to give me the 350 power i just wanna be able to get 5th gear on the highway. another reason is i was looking into gears and it would be abour 300 or more to do them and i am thinking i can scrounge around and fine a I6 and AX 15 for the same price and i have the capability to do it all myself with some help from my friend. i dont know i knew i was going to be grilled for wantin to go the the 6 cyl but it fits what i want to do.

Great minds think alike bluvikng. Better to sell the one off and buy one with the 6.

something else i was told is that the 4 banger mounting plates on the frame are in a different location than the I6 mounting plates. you would have to cut and move the mounting plates.

motor mounts are different...i dont know if you would want a carb...a buddy of mine has a yj with a 4 inch lift and 33's and a 350 LT-1 corvette engine and it is fine with the stock axles...and he definitely doesn't pet it...what i mean is he still drives it with plenty of i guess what u would call "spirit"
