87 Engine Trouble - I Think

I am new to the old school jeep world and I am have some trouble. I have a 87 wrangler with a 2.5. When I turn the key to the off position my jeep continues to run for 3 to 5 seconds and just sputters off. I know this is a newb question but what can i do to fix this. IT'S EMBARASSING.

Thanks

so the jeep is deiseling at turnoff...

When was the last tune up?
Is it backfiring at all?

I had this problem with my 89 but it was a carbed 4.2. I tried the carb and it wasn't it. I eventually found out that the camshaft had worn. Hopefully your problem isnt that serious and a tuneup(plugs wires rotor cap) will fix it.

Good luck

the 90 4 banger that lives at my house does the same thing, my buddy tuned it up. cleaned fuel system, never figured it out. i never looked real far into it, it is embarrasing. i'm curious about what it is. make sure you post the fix

I just bought this about 2 weeks ago. It had set for around 7 months in his barn said the engine was rebuilt around 30,000 miles ago and it is not backfiring.

I just added a new exhaust from engine back. Could this have caused any issues?

Make sure you check your timing and have decent gas.

When you turn it off, leave it in gear with your foot on the brake and let out the clutch Then you won't have to listen to it ramble on
