I'm wondering if anyone could share what, exactly, the Sahara package was and what 'Limited' meant? I own a '91 as stated in the title and was just wondering about it.
The sahara package was an interior trim package and I believe they came with the 4.0l hi-output engines only. You get special color schemes inside along with cool seats and door panels.
It's just the engine that came with the package. One would have the 4.0l or even 4.2l and the other would have the 2.5l. They both would have the same interior and probably the same accessories with the exception of A/C.
Where are you getting the LIMITED from?
Badging?
Jeep website vin search?
Original sticker?
There wasn't an official, badged LIMITED edition in the US at least.
UK perhaps.
Window stickers may have said LIMITED with sahara. My 05 LJ rubicon window sticker said wrangler unlimited "trail" on it.
Here in the Denver metro area it was a big deal during the late 80s to have a "Rocky Mountain Edition" pickup. Usually you would find it on the rear bedsides of 4X4 pickups, both imports and domestic.
At that time I worked at a dealership body shop. The adjacent detail shop had a plotter. A plotter is a machine that is computer controlled and cuts patterns into vinyl sheets. With a plotter you can cut outlines of business logos, sports logos or the lettering "Rocky Mountain Edition" with an underline of the lettering that ended with a couple mountains.
The dealer would put these decals that were made in house on the bedsides, along with a stripe, "Scotchguard" upholstery protection, undercoat and "permanent wax protection". Then charge an additional $500.00 to $1000.00 for the package.
What a ripoff. For about a hundred dollar investment, including labor, the dealer could increase his profit and not have to share it with the salesperson.
I had a sign shop that has a plotter cut out the decal on my Jeep that's just above the Jeep lettering (see my signature). I could have the same sign shop make a "Limited" decal for my front fender.
Do you think that's how your Sahara became a Limited?
The paint appears to be peeling away from the circular "Sahara Edition" decal. That indicates to me that the fender was repainted sometime in the past and the painter didn't want to buy a new decal or thought he wouldn't be able to get a new one. The paint does not appear to be peeling around the "Limited" script. That indicates to me that the "Limited" script was put on after the fender was painted. Of course, I'm just speculating.
Ha! That's good stuff! I really couldn't understand what it meant. There didn't seem to be anything beyond the 'Sahara' package installed on the Jeep. Freakin' dealers!
