95 yj

I am just starting a new project (95 YJ) & I am going to do it right the 1st time around. I dont know much about 4x4 drive train because I have been working on street cars for the past 10years. Just by reading some of the threads I have learned alot. I have aquired a few things to get me started Dana 44 front & back(Scout), Dana 300, 305 chevy, 700r4. I plan on pulling off the tub to work on the drivetrain, suspension & the frame needs a little work. Do you think that is a good way to get my project started? After fixing the frame should I work on th axles or put the V8 in?

Not a 305 those are the worst V8's chevy made get a 350 and 700r4. Thats the route I am going.

The Chevy 305 isn't the best engine for a swap. If you can afford it the 350 is a much better choice,the 90's Chevy LT1 350's are plentiful and reasonably priced in most cases. They were put in lots of GM vehicles from F- body's to the big B-body's like Caprices and Roadmasters. If you can afford one try to get the F-body engine they have aluminum heads.

Thanks for the advice, I really want to go with a 350 but I have not found one for a good price yet. The 305 fell into my lap for 200 bucks complete. I think I will keep looking though. I also dont have a clue with the fuel injection wiring with a 350. Is it a big deal to figure out?

You can buy a complete plug in wiring harness for just about any fuel injected engine. You need to have the computer and all of the sensors though to make it all work. The harness is usually between $350-$650, depending on what engine and transmission you are using. If you are going to use the 700r4 the 85 to early 87 have a larger input shaft and a 30 spline input shaft that makes them stronger than the 82-84. The later 87 to 93's have the larger input shaft and an auxilary valve body that helps with forward engagement. Also all the 700r4's from 87 1/2 up have the factory ten vane pump that is more desirable than the 82-86 seven vane and it helps maintain a more constant pressure for better performance and longer life. I believe the ten vane pump's last three digits are 732.

Since hes going with a 98 motor and computer i think that he has to get the electronic version of the 7000r4 the 4l60e that tranny might even be hooked up to that motor already and the computer might already be programmed for that tranny. The 4l60e is the same thing as the 700r4 just more advanced and has the electronic crap.

Read up on it on novak-adapt.com they'll have tons of information to your disposal more then you could imagine and they also have great quality adapting parts and have excellent customer service.
