a tj owner with a yj question

i was just wondering since the leaf springs bracket is right below the front bumper. wouldn't the jeep get hung up on objects more so then say a tj?

It's a totally legit question and no one was saying either is better. A Jeep is a Jeep. Questions about one or the other are honest and since it wasn't asked with malice, I'd hope people could see that. I was only razzing, AD.

And I'm not paranoid, AD.

me and my buddy both have yj's, and they cause serius issues commin out of mud holes. the main issue we've had with them is when commin out of a hole with deep ruts, they dig into the high spot in between the ruts when comming out of the hole

I think a shackle reversal might help with that. It may slide over the obstacle better. It is on my list, if I ever get it done I'll let you know.

ok. The leaf springs are not the lowest point on a YJ. The diffs are. Now go look at your TJ. Ahhh! The lowest point on the TJ is also the diffs!!

aaaahhhhhhhhhh
A supressed childhood memory has been shocked to consciousness by this statement.

I might have been 5-6 yrs old, sitting in that old tree in the back yard, singing a little song about piss ants.....and momma hit the back door, telling me it was time to come in the house. After being scolded about which words little girls should not use, I was given some time in the corner to think this over.

i wasn't concerned about the lowest point, i was just thinking that as you approach something that the brackets or springs would catch on that object.

I guess I have never had an issue. I watch where I am going. It had to do with knowing your vehicle and being able to position the vehicle exactly right. I think the rock crawlers call it "lines".

I know you weren't. I thought you had a legit question. bigjeep was responding and doesn't have a YJ and is talking with having no experience, as usual.

Oddishe and myself are the only YJers to appear in this thread.

and I'm going to continue to be until he retracts his statement and admits he doesn't have the experience to offer a qualified opinion.

I havent had a problem with my shackles yet.... mostly because i "eye up" everything i'm about to go over, not just charge at it and hope for the best... After my drivetrain is back together, I plain on doing a soa conversion and put 4" spring under me.... It'll be fun, Just lift your jeep higher so you dont have to worry about your shackles hitting...

So your going to use 4" lift springs for your SOA?

When I had my 1.5" shackle lift and sagging springs, I used to burry my shackles in into the mud all the time. However, after I could afford it, I got rid of my lift shackles and lifted my Jeep the right way. I installed a RE 2.5" lift I havn't had any problems hitting my shackles since.
