I'm new here so I'd like to say hello. I don't currently own and jeep but I'm trying like mad to get my hands on a 94 YJ that's abandoned on my employers parking lot. It's a 2.5 with 5spd, soft top (what's left of it atleast) Will try to get a picture up.

Should he beg forgiveness before or after being charged with Grand Theft Auto?????

I tried to pursue a Truimph Spitfire that was abandoned in a parking lot once.
I never heard anything back from anyone, and while I was waiting, some kids trashed the car.
Then, after sitting a few more months with all of its dignity stripped, the owner of the shopping center had it scrapped.

:(

I would have been better off never seeing any of that.

I have had some really good luck getting cars in oddball ways though.
I once bought a vintage Beetle sitting on the side of the road because it had just had an engine fire and the owner was pissed at it.
The guy replaced the burned parts in the parking lot we were in, I paid $250 for the car, and then drove it home!

Good luck on the Jeep!

I say you should take it home and cover it with a tarp to prevent it from getting damaged anymore until you get a hold of the owner. Ive heard about people getting abandoned houses by taking care of the house and the house defaults to them, maybe there's somthing like that for cars.

Im a truck driver and its a big parking lot. The guy was fired last march and just left it there. I would take it home but im risking arrest if I do. Also ive tried every means I know of to contact the guy. I know his name address and phone number but hes not returning any calls or letters. Texas provides no real way to take ownership of an abandoned car short of having the police impound it and try and buy it at auction. Any ideas?

I once pulled an old '65 Chevy truck home off the street in front of my apartments.
The guy had been kicked out in the complex next door and he never came back for his truck.

I figured that he'd probably sell it cheap, since he was about to have it impounded anyway.
I contacted the guy and he said that he had all of these grandiose plans for it and that he appreciated me saving it for him.
I said that I'd hold it for two days (over the weekend) so he could come get it, but that's all I was able to do.

Two weeks later, the truck was still at my place with no sign of the "restoration" guy.
I pushed it back out into the street where I found it.

If you tow it home before you are able to buy it, be aware that you might be dealing with a flake.
After all, he's already abandoned a vehicle and been fired from his job.

Tow it out of there and put a mechanics or storage lean on it. Pretty sure that'll seal the deal. At the very least, you'll have it and can deal with it later. Who leaves keys in the car?

This parking lot is truck driver employee parking. I doubt it would have broken down parked perfectly in its spot. Seems to me when he was fired he either wouldnt or couldnt remove it for whatever reason. It had a tarp over the remains of top. Both of which are shredded. That tells me he stored it
