Air box mod

I've seen this mod on several threads before, but I didn't want that big hole in my air box to remain open. I do bury my headlights in mudholes several times a year, so I want to be able to close it back up before going wheeling. So, I put a hinge on the plastic plate and secured it with a strap. Put some foam tape on the plate to add extra sealing when closed too. Now, if only I can remember to pop the hood and close it up before going wheeling!

By the way, I noticed quite a difference in power by opening up this space in the air box...especially when getting up to speed on the interstate on-ramp. It responds much better when I hit the gas.

i'm going to go a little different on mine. the intake pipe on the front can be changed (with some pvc elbows) and made to point up. i got two computer box fans to put at the intake of the intake box to keep a constant pressure on the box. we'll see. later

I did the same thing about a week ago in my YJ, didn't do that whole hinge thing although if i do start going mudding or something i might think of something like that, i also noticed that the Power is a definite change, and my gas mileage went up a bit too

NAVYCHIEF, please post pics when you get around to the PVC intake pipe. That sounds cool. Will water be able to stay out of it pointing up?
