Bought a 1992 YJ with 130,000 miles on it a couple weeks ago for $1,000. Seemed to be a pretty good deal. It's a California Jeep and was owned by a Marine stationed at 29 Palms who was transfered. No rust but anything that could be damaged by the sun is gone. All seats, the roll bar pads, original matching color flares, etc.etc. I looked farly extensively at several of the popular jeep parts web sites (Quadratec, JC Whitney, 4WD) and parts seem out of site. Any advice on best place to find parts. The jeep runs great but needs some TLC. Any advice on clubs to join or anything else would be appreciated. I have looked at this forum for the last week or so and sure seems to be a lot of knowledge here. I live in Orange county California.
Keep an eye on Craigslist and Ebay. I've got lots of stuff off both sites.
Have you tried hitting up any boneyards yet? I have had some luck at these places. Don't know where you are, but I know around Boston there have been lots of Dead WRangler sightings because of the Cash for Clunkers deal in the junk (I mean used car parts) yards.
Welcome to this world. You'll love and hate that thing each and every day. And seeing you're a pet doc, get a harness for Fido cause he's gonna love that new Jeep of yours.

Clubs are sometime a very good sourse of cheap parts. I have also bought many parts off ebay but make sure you pay close attention wording of the listings and ask questions if your not sure of the quality of the part. Collins Bros Jeep Used Jeeps Parts and Accessories sells quality used parts, you pay more but you get what you pay for.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Haven't tried any junkyards yet. But i will. Anybody know how to tell what model a YJ is? S, Renegade, Islander etc. My 92 4.0 L 5 spd. had color matched fender flares, air conditioning, tilt wheel. Any clue?
X2 on checking ebay and craigslist. My jeep has/had all the same stuff as yours, and its a laredo but idk if they made laredos in 92. Welcome to the forum and world of jeeps. Good luck, have fun, and be safe.
find out where the local insurance claims are sold at, and look at some of those. I just found a 90 yj that had been fixed up nice. 6 in lift 35 tires, rims, wench, hard top and perfect interior. the motor and trans seem to be good, and the 35 dana axels have been upgraded. I also had every chrome exterior part known to man.
Then jeep had been swipe on the front driver side. Cant drive, and I wouldnt try to fix it. But, I got the hard top, all the seats, carpet, and alll the other goodies to use on my 90 yj. I only paid 750 dollars for the whole thing. The hard top alone is worth more than that.
