I've got a 10" in a box bought from the local stereo store for $50. It is wedge shaped and will fit behind the rear seat. Currently running on an amp mounted on the wheel well,.
My upgrade will be to add a 4-channel amp and sum two channels for the sub, take two channels and put a centra-pod on the front floor for better front staging. I also have a sound bar running of the head unit, and two pods mounted in front of the wheel wells with 6x9's running off the head unit. right now it drives me crazy to not have front staging, but little steps and money.
Subwoofers don't work in open air. Just something to consider if you like to go topless.
I went with these 6x9's hooked to a marine grade amp and was shocked at how much bass they put out. They are loudspeakers, so they are made for open air. Weatherproof too.

Subwoofers definitely do work in open air jeeps. Granted they aren't the best quality but they work. You're not winning any audio contests but it will work. A down firing 8" or 10" should be just fine
DB-651's... been a fan a long time. better than marine speakers, unless you want to splurge on JL's, and they are practically throwaways. I have six on my Searay, two on my Zodiac, and soon four in the YJ. Plus subs, even though they aren't meant for open spaces....

I have the box pictured here and the pods with 6x9's running my rear lows and staging. 4 channel amp, two channels summed for the Boston 10" sub, and the other two channels running from rear pre-outs on my Pioneer Head. running the sub at just a hair under 80khz crossover, about 1/2 gain. Running the 6x9's with no crossover, a little bass gain, and abpout 2/3's overall gain. I've got a crappy amp and it still rocks. The 6 1/2's in the soundbar run off the head, and have ordered a centra-pod and Polk DB-651's for front staging running off the head.... for now. The good thing is you can tweak the sub outs off the head, so fine tuning is easier. I don't listen to thuper music, but love to pull up next to a trunk rattler and rock some Jason Aldean and make them look.
FWIW, there's room for a small tool kit, my drill, towels for the boat, two coolers and a soft-side cooler for impromptu boat rides.

I have a 10" kicker sub in a box behind the rear seat with the amp mounted to the box. Also have a sound bar with six speakers in it, as well as two kickers in the factory dash mounting locations. I like the sound with the top and doors off. At least I can hear it as I drive 55 or more. It was set up like this when I bought it but it seems to work well.
Nice! Ya I have a 12 in concept sub in the back as well behind the seat, amp is also mounted to the box! The only issue is you lose trunk space, but it works awesome
I really like the interior of yor jeep!!! Did you buy like that or did you add all the brown yourself? Cause I'm thinking of doing something similar with my interior...
Thanks for all the ideas and stuff. As to the open air thing for subs.. I can't go topless that much because I live in a place literally nicknamed the wet coast so open air isn't an issue for me
That's cool. I've been caught in nasty stuff that comes in from the rear and the sides, but usually even with no top at all, as long as you're moving, you stay dry. It's the red lights and stop signs that get ya. A bikini top will keep you dry. It's all I run spring to fall.
Here's a couple pics I found searching "Jeep Subwoofer" and clicking the images tab. Something different than the usual stuff being posted.
I'm curious as to if anyone has put a downfiring sub on the bottom of their console. Because that would be ideal for my setup. If anyone has any idea itd be much appreciated
Previous owner put this in. I was going to change it out, but it sounds pretty good and I can move it around if I want. I can even put it on the hood at parties or camping.
