Just wondering if mine will handle a larger camper than our pop up. We are looking to buy a travel trailer. My YJ has the 6cyl auto with a 2.5 susp lift

Some peeps will tell you that you can tow 6,000 lb as long as you're safe about it.

I've moved my son's Travel Trailer from one end of the property to the other (about 2500ish) and while I did it at low speeds and safely, it's not something I'd do on the road...

But the fact remains it's a very short wheelbase Vehicle. My Popup is a 12' and weighs about 1700 with the stuff I have in it and it was quite an adventure on the Highway. Mind you I also drove OTR Trucks for 5 years so I'm not a rookie at towing lol.

The engine itself can tow quite a bit it's just that the vehicle isn't really meant for more than a Utility Tow.

If you also get in an accident and the Insurance company finds out you are over the (G)ross (C)ombination (W)eight (R)ating they can find you in violation and refuse to cover.

With that said, the max for the Wrangler is 2000 lbs which is even the max towing by a 2014 JK Wrangler with a much more powerful engine.

X2 on what he said. Max trailer weight has to be under 2000lbs, and have a tongue weight of less than 200lbs.

Your popup exceeds both of those weight ratings, and a hard sided travel trailer is way out of the ball park.

Just like the guys that pull a boat to the marina or lake, sure the YJ will drag it, but do it safely? Not. A little aluminum jonn boat, or a utility trailer? sure go for it. A travel trailer, or even your popup? Get a proper tow vehicle.
