ARB Snorkel Conversion to Carb

Hello

So heres the deal: I want a snorkel.

Heres the problem: Nobody produces a snorkel made for a carburetor.

Heres the answer: Buy an ARB safari snorkel for a fuel injected YJ and modify it to fit a carburetor. (I've already got an idea to do that)

Heres the problem with the answer: The snorkel works with use of the stock air box.

Heres where you guys come in : I need ideas for how to keep a normal air filter between the snorkel and the engine.

All suggestions are welcome and appreciated except those in which say to forget about a snorkel

put the fuel injected air box in and run the duct work from the airbox to the top of the carb. Im not verry familiar with the inside of the carberated engine bay as the 2 wranglers ive had are fuel injected so my suggestion may sound/seem easier then it actually is.

Since you have 2 with fuel injected do you know which side of the engine compartment the air box is (if you're at the front of the Jeep) and does it have a mounting bracket? or does it mount to something besides the fender wall?

the air box is in front of the windshield washer tank. on the drivers side. it has a mounting bracket connecting it to the fender. click image to enlarge.

exactly what navy chief said about the location. the airbox itself i believe is the same from a 4 cyl and 6cyl motor only difference may be the dia of the duct work that goes from the box to the throttle body. I have the old 91 air box from a 4 cyl and its the same as the one from my 95 6cyl motor but the ductwork from the 4cyl tb is gone so i cant compare the 2.

So I'm 1/3 of the way there, I got a waterproof seal around the carb and found a temporary air filter that has a nice base plate that I can seal to attach the air box to

why on earth couldn't you just have used a factory air box, it can't be very hard to make the factory air hose work on the carb. what are you going to do with that air filter, you defeat the purpose by leaving an air filter exposed.

i would be using factory parts

have you thought about just taking the whole air box assembly out of a fuel injected yj and putting that in, then running a hose or something so it hooks up to the carb. that way you could just use a normal air filter for a FU yj. that way you dont have to worry about having a lot to deal with if you have to replace the current air filter.

my thread has risen from the grave

The project has been put on hold, since I don't want a PVC snorkel the $500 for the ARB is kinda tight. + I'll have to think of something new when I put the motorcraft 2100 carb on

It'll get there eventually
