Bestop Windshield Channel Question

My '95 YJ came with a new set of Bestop Windshield Channels when I bought it. The previous owner told me that I should install it if I ever buy a Bikini top, and that it would also help reduce the flapping with the standard top.

I took the soft top off for the first time and notice that the factory channels are still there, and in pretty good condition. My question is: am I supposed to install the Bestop channel on top of the factory channel? And if so, how?

Thanks.

Doesnt matter what kind of channel you use as long as it hooks under and you can pull it tight so it cant come loose.

So if the factory channel is already there, I don't need to install the Bestop?

I don't know, does the bikini top fit into the channel and does it get nice and snug when you got it all hooked up ?
If so then just leave the old channel on.

Agreed. Leave it. If something gets messed up in the process you could strip the crappy baby screws that hold the channel on then you'll have to get bigger ones. Might be speaking from experience on this.

On a CJ and YJ, the windshield channel should be the same for most full tops and Bikini tops. Sunrider tops have different channels, and some soft tops might have different. But I'd certainly try to keep the one you have on there.

Just make sure your Bikini top fits into the channel properly.

I am looking for some channels for my YJ, so if you have an extra set, whether factory or after market, let me know if you want to sell them!

Yeah, as it is, the factory soft top fits nice and snug so I'm guessing whatever bikini top I order should be fine. I'll post here if it's not the case. Thanks for the help!
