bikini/windjammer/duster questions..

I am thinking about adding a windjammer and duster to my yj, and wanted to know if anyone had any comments about them before I do. The main question I have is what do people do to seal up the door area. I have half doors and could get some uppers but I dont see how they would seal to anything. I also have a old hardtop that has rear damage and was thinking about cutting it down to replace my bikini so I would have something for the uppers to seal against, but it looks like there would be a gap between the hardtop and the padded roll bars on the door sides. Just wanting some input if anyone has ran into these issues before. Thanks

It isn't going to seal with the bikini/wind jammer/duster combo.

You can bend the tops of the doors in to touch the roll bar, but it isn't going to make a good enough seal to keep the rain and weather out.

Same with the wind jammer, it doesn't seal either, and actually creates more wind turbulence with it in than with it out.

And the duster (tonneau) leaks around the roll bar struts in the back, and becomes your very own pond after a rain storm, unless you fabricate some type of bow system to hold it up, Kind of like what a pickup has under a tonneau cover.

All 3 products are nice for looks, but that's about the extent of their ability.

I turned an old hard top into a hard top bikini and I love it. I also added the tonneau cover and just recently the cab curtain. You are not going to get a complete seal, but so what. I plan to get some TJ uppers to mod and call it good. There will be a small gap between the door and curtain, but it's a jeep. I don't (usually) wear a suit when driving it and plan for a bit of an experience. Just pull the carpets and rhino liner the tub. I love the fact that not many people have a hardtop bikini top. It is awesome, no flapping in the wind, no pool of water over your head, and the side edges go past the roll bar to help keep the rain off your arm. I did cut mine in such a way that I could add a side drop for a better seal against my door, but don't really like the look. Check the forum, you will find several examples. There is a white cj that was done up really nicely. I will try to post a few pics later of what I did.

thanks for the responses. I noticed some WrapAround Windjammer for later models. I wonder why something like this isnt offered for the yj. I also wondered just how much difference is the tj WrapAround Windjammer to a yj Windjammer.

I found this and i like it. but I have never had a soft top on any of my jeeps so what is needed other than the tailgate bar and the 2 tub bars. is there something similar to door surrounds?

If you want to keep the puddle from forming on the duster, just jam a big water bottle in the folded back seat. That's what I do for a cheap solution. Don't get a windjammer, they're pretty useless and flap around and bang your seat as you drive. As for the bikini top it's a good quick solution to keep some of the water out of the inside, I run one during the summer when it rains.
