Seriously, buy the YJ. i had a subaru justy fwd for 5 years, in between Jeeps, and i've been a subaru fan since. it got me through the "ice storm of the century" in 99'-00' here in arkansas. i would love to have a WRX and my advice to you is to add a new accessory to your WRX, a pretty good looking Wrangler!! good luck bro!!!

I'm tryin', I'm tryin'. No call yet.

That's funny you're trying to buy a Rex. We're thinking about selling our's. The car is awesome but we never drive it and it's the kind of car that if you don't give it exercise it will go all to hell. Brakes will freeze up, exhaust will rot off etc... Especially here in New England.

We have an '02 that we bought in '01 and I just broke 70,000 on her. Great car, fun as hell to drive, NOTHING is better in the snow (especially with 4 studded Nokians, she'll climb a damn tree) but I drive the van more and ride a bike to work a couple times a week. Scooby gets you from point A to B fast but repairs are not easy sometimes and $$$$. If I have to work on a car every so often I decided I may as well get another Jeep. Cheaper to own and cheap and easy to repair.

And just as much fun in a different way.

If I don't score this YJ I'm gonna have to shoot myself.

I'm in full support of you buying it, it's a good looking yj. But keep in mind, they're not cheap to repair. Remember what jeep stands for...

Good luck on the buy tho You've got a steal on your hands if you can get it.

HEHEHE yeah I know, I have a sticker that say's that on the driverside visor on the CJ rotting in the back 40.

Still a hell of a lot cheaper to repair and maintain than the Rex I assure you. In a perfect world I'd like to have all three but like I said the Scooby will nickle and dime me if I don't drive it more. If I'm not driving it then that means I don't really need it. I have a 2 car garage but I work in the bike industry and I'm a snowkiter for Peter Lynn Kiteboarding so both sides are filled to the gills with bike and snowkite stuff.

I haven't had a car in the garage since 2001.

We should build a new garagemahal. Some big 3 or 4 bay beast.

No call back today, guess I'll wait until tomorrow. I just booked a flight for the smarter half to come back on the 21st. (damn I thought I'd have more time!) This is gonna be close.

I think the tranny is filled with brie. Room temp at that.

DONE AND DONE FOR $1500!

Whew! Thank God that's over now all I have to do is get rid of my J2000 before the wife finds out I bought the YJ. I fixed the directionals and a few of the other little things. I'm gonna have to pull off the skid plate and see if I can fix the exhaust leak.

$1500 for a vehicle that I can start and drive and will pass inspection seems pretty like a pretty good deal.

Thanks everyone for your input it made the decision a lot easier.

I can't wait to get this thing on the road.

I think so.

I'm going to register it today and hopefully I'll be able to drive it around this weekend. I'm going to tell the smarter half that I bought it. She'll probably make me sleep in the spare room for a while but she'll get over it after we take it for a ride.

If not that's okay, I sllep better when I have the whole bed to myself.

Thanks again everyone. I'm sure I'll be on the forum more in the future as I pick through this thing.

jeeps are cheaper to fix than most vehicles. If you know what you're doing under the hood anyway. If you do, i'd drive that trans till it craps, and get an ax-15. now that i've dropped and put mine back in 4 times, it doesn't seem like such a hard task to install a trans. just a damn greasy one. if it runs and drives clean, then sounds like you got a hell of a deal. 87 may have been the first YJ, but it's still a YJ (big it up for the squares).

congrats, and welcome to squaresville

Got her registered and insured today. Took her out for a drive to the local DQ and about town. Definately an exhaust leak under the skid plate. Other wise she rides and drives really well.

Color me stoked. I'm even starting to like the "garden hose" green paint. I'm tapped out $ wise and scrambling to get it together before the next bill cycle but I think it's worth it.

It feels awesome to drive a jeep again. A friend of mine drives a TJ and kept telling me that "real" jeeps have round headlights. I pointed out that my jeep is almost 20 yrs older has less than half the rust and a I6 that I can work on and will actually pull me up a hill at a reasonable speed.

Oh and I paid $1500 and he paid $18000. He shut it after that.

Anway I'm wicked psyched and can't wait to drive her more tomorrow.

Congrats man nice YJ. Wished I would have gotten that kind of deal on my 87. Shes got 217,000 miles on her no rust to speak of but she still cost me $4000 here in Florida. The worst part is I looked at several other in a lot worse condition that people where asking $7000 or more for.

Okay one final update and I'll let this thread die. I just wanted to post some pics of the new rig after I cleaned her up and put the mirrors from the CJ on. I've fixed everything that I found wrong with it and all I have left is the exhaust leak just forward of the catalytic (pain in the A$$) and a e-brake is disconnected in the caliper ( i think) and the temp gauge. (any suggestions there?)

After looking at the pics I figure either Karma is getting me back for something good or this thing is just waiting to explode and kill me. I dunno. But I'm starting to dig the color and it's bee great scooting around in her.

Oh and for ENIX89yj I posted a pic of my J2000 which I'm going to dump.

Thanks again for the support and advice everyone and the revisit of Monty Python.

Pix didn't take. Oh yeah and for $1500 I'm pretty sure I'm going straight to Hell. But I'll be going in a pretty sweet old Jeep!
