For starters, we are dealing with interior electric on an 89 YJ with nothing connected in the engine compartment except the battery (both the positive and a ground) and the headlight side of the bulk head connection. I have searched and searched and searched and I have not even come close to finding an answer to the following question;
"Can/will the interior lights on the gauge cluster, fan motor switch, or any other interior electrical work with out any of the electrical "brains" like the ECM?"
So this is how I got here...I picked an 89 YJ that the PO had put in a 94 FI 4.0 from a Cherokee, with all of the wiring harnesses and components. The interior was pretty hacked up to make room for the tach and speedo cluster from the Cherokee. I want to return the interior back to the "original" style and pop in a 360.
My first step has been to gut the interior and remove all electrical harnesses, inside and out. From there I picked up everything for the interior including a complete wiring harness and I have started putting it back together which leads us to my current state of confusion. I have the interior together (less a stereo and heater control cables), and the only things that work are on the exterior like headlights, turn signals and etc...
I have replaced the light switch, replaced the dimmer, jumped the dimmer, cleaned connections and the only thing I get is my oil pressure gauge pegs right and my interior dome lights will come on when I flip the dimmer switch. No dash lights, no gauge lights, and not even turn signal indicators.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice! I feel like I'm :deadhorse:
