alot of people will tell you they are crap and others will tell you they are great.

but it all depends on you. do you plan on using it very often or do you only plan on having it "just incase"?

i suguest you do a little research on winches and the different motor types. the chicago electric winches are not as desirable if you plan on using it frequently or long use times do to the motor type. as the more expensive winches such as "warn" are better for longer use times due to there motor types.

the choice is yours most ppl dont use a winch that much and if this is your case the habor frieght winch could be the one for you.

do some reading on different types of winches.....no they are not all the same.

I have a 9000lb Chicago electric winch.
I picked it up for $200 with a winch plate. I wouldn't have had a winch for a long time if I didnt get that deal on it.
the good:
Mine never let me down when I had it on the jeep. It's SLOOOOOW but it NEVER let me down. I dont think being slow is good or bad in my case b/c its better than diggin and using a come-a-long.
the bad:
The hook up for the winch remote got messed up somehow and I have to wiggle it where it connects to the winch box to get ot to work. and the free spool is kindof jammed up and doesnt want to disengage and engage most of the time.

That being said, mine is a older generation one. maybe you wont have the same problems with yours.
also, I will eventually like to replace mine with a new warn and demote this one to trailer duty

I had many people talk me into returning that winch before I even took it out of the box. If you want to spend a few more bucks Sams Club makes 10,000 winches called Champions that many people are happy with. You should upgrade to a beefier battery no matter which one you choose.

I don't suppose you have a link for that, do you? I've been a Sam's member for awhile, I've never seen any winches or anything similar there..

Wow maybe wallmart but Sam's club? lol
If you go to the Sam's club store and pull it out of a refrigerator with all the chicken and the other stuff is then you know that winch will be hard core.

I bought an 10,000lb Atlas winch from Greg Smith Equipment out of Indiana for $416 shipping and all and it came with a mounting plate also.I have used it twice now and it is as quick and stong as either one of the 9000lb hydralic winches on my tow truck. Here is a link. They also have outlets in Delaware and Georgia.

I forgot to add if you look the price says $399 plus the shipping but if you tell them you need to talk to Adam with internet sales he will knock it down to $374 plus shipping.Shipping to me was at there cheapest rate because it is only 1 1/2 hr drive to there warehouse.
