Because i hate how the flare continues beyond the contour of the opening and across the bottom of the jeep for an extra 6" or so. Just want the flare to end at the base of the wheel opening--that's why...
I'm with you. I hate that extension also. I have a 94yj. What was Chrysler thinking. Oh wait they weren't thinking at all or they wouldn't have put it on there.
Yes they do have a fender for the yj that looks like the tj style. But for me the fit at the very front edge isn't close enough. Look around on line for pics. you'll see what I mean.
I dont mean a tj style yj flare I mean cutting the stock fender to fit actual tj flares. Why not just remove the flare extension though? Just pick up some rocker rails and cover up the holes.
i wasnt trying to be a dick when i asked why..i had a cj and those flares are awful. they are doofy and really small..if i were you id do what they said and get some tj flares..thats probably the cheapest alternative..i just ripped my flares off and cut my fenders lol
Awakening a dead thread.... He probably gave up and swapped on TJ flares or just kept his stock ones. CJ wheel wells are very small so the compatibility of CJ flares to later jeeps doesn't seem possible to me without adding sheet metal to the YJ fender. YJ's had slightly more room and TJ's got a lot more room for the wheel wells.
If it was me, I would cut the fender part of he flare high enough to put the bottom horizontal part on for a finished edge at each end.
