Question Consoles/ gages replacments

Anybody know of replacing the dash and gages on a YJ for better ease in seeing the gages? what about just a newer Dash that would fit into an 88? Anybody done it? or know how to make a custom dash?

Just did all gauges.... went with the autometer phantoms .....easy to read day or night and the big plus is the electronic speedo.... I can run any tire size or gear ratio and all it takes is a quick calibration and the speedo is dead on.... bought all gauges and bezels from summit....gotta get rid of my grimey steering wheel next

Take your pick,,, there are so many choices.. go to summit racing and look at the Grant wheels...Maybe 100 bucks between the wheel and the adapter... I'll probably go with a 14" wheel.. stock is about 15"

Got everything from summit racing... no kit, bought all seperate gauges... between the gauges and the 2 bezels, i believe it was about 800 bucks.... but i went high end with all electric gauges,,, i hate mechanical ones.. for example, a mechanical speedo is 100 bucks, my electric speedo cost 200 plus 70 for the speed sensor..

Hole saws from McMaster Carr, 1/8" thick alumumin plate $34, gages from summit, waiting on control cables from ebay, much better than the plastic that was there!

What did you do with the 4WD inducator light on the stock gauge cluster? And what was the electrical nightmare involved??

It will be one of the yellow LED's on the left side of the steering wheel, if I hook it up. I've done away with the vacumum stuff and will be running the front axle locked in all the time.

I put in a Chevy harness so the electrical nightmare is more than would normally be expected. Really putting in a flat dash like this into a jeep harness wouldn't be that bad. Really the only electrical that you have are the turn indicators, warning lamps, headlights and fan. The gages I installed are all mechanical.

See my build here http://www.wranglerforum.com/f8/time...ild-27750.html

Uplifted, I've been wanting to do that for a while now. I was just unsure of what to use for brackets to hold the gauges in place. Would u mind pulling the gauge covers off, and letting me get a peek. Or you can just enlighten me.

The bezels i bought are already cut out for the aftermarket gauges.. the gauges themselves come with there own hold down clamps..very, very easy install... as much as i wanted to reuse my stock bezels and mod them to fit the gauges, i was burnt out from doing the v8 conversion and just got lazy.. ..... Here's the link for the bezels

Very cool. I've looked at the Phantoms also and I had those in most of my other cars I've had. I wasn't aware they made a bezel for the jeeps, but good to know. Thanks for the input.
