cool rear view mirror

just installed a rearview mirror in my jeep. Originally in an Oldsmobile bravada it has map lights and a built in compass. it was a simple two wire hook up.
Originally was looking for just some light in jeep since soft top doesnt have a dome light anywhere and found this in the junk yard. i noticed alot of blazers have the map lights but not the compass. if you just want light this is a good option. was very cheap and great mod/add on.

Dammit, you suck. i need batteries and cable for camera. gonna have to wait till weekend when i post pics of intake for other thread.
bravada mirror is pretty light, has a extra dong hanging by the mount to the glass which is the compass unit. right side top is digital display which has a light for night viewing. bottom has two lights. wires are easy. just three wires but two are power so just splice together and run to fuse block and find ignition power. other wire is ground.

kinda looks like this but has two switches underneath d/s and p/s for map lights

Yes, just power and ground. What you dont see in that pic i posted is the little extra dong thats by the widshield glass. Seems that is the compass unit itself and has a calibration switch. even if you cant find a compass model, the map lights are worth the trouble of a regular one. BTW, was out of a 91-92 bravada.

errr, i didnt get that far. sorta just tucked into window seal(wanted to make sure it worked first). probably gonna run through windshield frame via two small holes one top and one bottom, trick is feeding wire through. ground wire i put an eyelet and screwed right above mirror in frame.

hiding the wires should be a snap. use the hard top holes. put the wire through a piece of tubing toward the drivers side and down to the fuse box. use small plastic clamps to hold the tubing in place. only one hot wire needs to go into the tube splice behind the mirror and run the ground to one of the hardtop mouting holes.

I want to put it on my dash up side down{easy to run wires}
as my only mirror for when I run with windshield
down

no, not the compass function. it would just put the lettering upside down. i imagine you might be able to turn the compass led over to set it rightside up.

Cool mod, but do the visors contact the mirror? It looks to be quite a bit wider than the factory mirror.

Interesting mod. Not sure I've ever used the visors as they are pretty small. More holes to drill....

put some sun shade film on the top 6" of the windshield and toss the visors.

soak the mirror attachment point in that pabst. it'll melt the material and make it sticky enough to adhere to the windshield.

Pabst is good beer, or atleast the best 30 pack for 15.99

Paint isnt too good, water rings just show the cleaner parts of hood.

Any parts store sells the re-attaching glue for that. just be sure to read the destructions first. Put a hot (steaming) cup of water under it while it begins to dry.

Remove the puck from the mirror first, as well.

so at the pick n pull i snagged two mirros w/ map lights 2.50 each. no compass though in the whole yard, only map lights. i put one in my mj, and the other in the black yj. awesome cheap mod, older yj's have no overhead light. and the wires are invisible, they fit right in the windshield molding and behind the dash. mj's have goofy lights on the pillars that never work, so this works awesome. on the mj they come on w/ door open, or by dome light switch, and on the yj they just come on by the same switch as turning on the floor lights.

thanks dooder.

ok ok ok, gotta have pics

this one even has a timer built into the mirror, so the lights go out after about a minute. which really screwed me up i thought it had a bad connection till i figured that out.

here you can barely see where i couldn't tuck in one wire connector, if i had my solder gun at home i could've made it so you wouldn't see anything even if you wanted to, it still looks like it belongs there.

I've still got this giant mirror if anyone wants it I didn;t pay attention to the description about its size when I ordered it on line and was a little larger than I expected.

The mirror on my windshield is the mopar one with temp and compass and led map lights.
