Daily driver for this winter..Next on the list the brakes

Hello All

With my goal of having a safe daily driver to use this winter. I have taken back the jeep I purchased for my twin sons when they were in HS 12 years ago. They used it throughout HS, college and even graduate school. It was given back to me about 2 years ago and I just drove it a couple of times a year around the block to keep it going waiting for this time .

Its a completely stock 1991 Wrangler 4.0L 5 speed. I am the second owner

The frame seems sound, the floors are about gone. I have slipped in some sheet metal a few years back so not to play 'The Flinstones".
When I went to take it for its spring drive a power steering line blew and so I have started on its rebirth.

the goal is safety first and then the cosmetic aspects. No point in having a daily driver that won't drive!

mobile again...this weekend I replaced the power steering lines, radiator and radiator hoses.

Next to tackle will be the brakes bearings etc. The Jeep has 161,000 miles. I have had it for 12 years, and I kept up on pads and rotors etc. but the last 2 years of sitting on the edge of the woods has taken its toll.

The cold air intake box held a mouse nest...I think. It was completely filled with hair, fuzz and et etc. the good news is after cleaning it out and putting in a new filter the check engine light went out so that sensor is still working!

getting back to the brakes.....the dust shields are almost rusted threw ...the jeep stops fine, I even took on the freeway for a little run. I want to replace the bearings seals dust shield rotors, calipers, pads and drums and pads on the year, probaly the wheel cylinders and some time this summer the master cylinder

Any suggestions on what to replace and where to order above parts? I have heard of Rockauto.com as a good online source any other suggestions?

The best thing to do is to drive it a couple of days each weekend until stuff starts to either break or not break.. I'd start by changing all the fluids.. and I mean all. Oil and filter, trans. fluid and filter, front and rear axles, transfer case, coolant etc... do a visual of the brakes, and make sure you have good tires, as they can dry rot easily. That should get you started.. good luck. Don't forget the Jeep wave while out on the road.

That a great point...I will drive it around and get it warmed, drop it into fwd and warm up the front gears and change all of that out.

Does anyone have a good online source for general car parts for Jeeps like rotor, drum calipers, pads etc etc
