I was wonderin to get the strongest axle up front would it be better to upgrade the dana 30 to solid axles and 27 splines or to find a dana 44 and build it up? If i go with a 44 can i find one that is the same width and a driver side houseing, if so out of what? if search this forum and couldnt find much. ill be puttin a 350 in w/ a 8'' lift. i was tryin to stay away from the 60's. ill be puttin a dana 44 in the rear and beef it up.
huh? dana 30 is ALREADY 27 spline. personally i'd go with an 8.8 over the 44. but the 44 is better than the 30 so its OK too. what size tires will you be runnin? the 8.8 has 31 spline over the dana 44's 30 spline. but you said would it be better to upgrade the 30 to solid axle and 27 spline but that is WEAK. that is the same as the weak dana 35. and they are already 27 spline anyway! that wouldn't be a change or anything different or an upgrade.
Okay few things we need to know. with 8" of lift (spring over? 1/4 elip? let me know) what size tires are you planning to run. As for the 350 the 44 will hold it but a 60 or 14 bolt might be a better pick. Mid 80's model grand wagoneer's have dana 44's and I think the t-case drop is on the correct side.
ill be runnin 37'' tires. the lift i am lookin at is the fabtech 8'' lift with a on the front axle and a springover on the rear. has anybody here used this lift. i read alot on it and like it but it is kindof expensive?
the only thing i dont like about the dana 60 is the width without having to cut the axles, but im thinkin of 60's off of a ih scout that are wide. are there 60's with the stock wrangler axle width?
on the 8.8 you make it sound like they make one in a front axle. do they make a 8.8 front axle? from what i have research the 8.8 and 44 rear axles are right up there together. with the 8.8 being a little more stonger than the 44. im tryin to keep it as much as possible jeep (except the engine).

Okay I checked the fabtech lift out. I don't know anyone running that. But for the cost of the front they are asking, I think you could save a ton of money and do a standard front and rear spring over with say 2.5" lift springs and then have a nice steering setup done to make room for the 37's. I don't think your going to find a 60 close to the YJ axle spec's unless you have one custom built. I would put a call into these guys and see if they might have something for you or might be able to give some advice. http://boyceequipment.com/
i thought one of the jeeps had a spring over from the factory, cherakee maybe (i cant spell), im not sure.
is the 30 on the front a standard or reverse rotation gear? and is the rearend a standard rotation?
im also tryin to decide on lockers. if heard alot of bad about detroit. i personaly thought detroits where good lockers but i have heard alot of bad about them. i hear alot of good about arbs. my question on arbs are how do you run the air line where they dont stretch and brake or get snaged on anything. is it that hard to deal with the air lines and compressor. im just tryin to find a good locker. im just dontknow about the air locker because when you need it it may no be there. or are they not that much maintence
The Xj came with a spring over on the back. The dana 30 that came in most Xj's was a High Pinion 30 vs the Low of the YJ and TJ, and does not have the vacum disco. The HP version is said to be stronger than a LP dana 44, ring and pinion wise. The detroits are a good unit ran one in a CJ no issues. Just can make on street driving a bit more fun, as it will bang and pop at certain times, making your think you axle just fell off the jeep. The ARB's are nice too, but as you said you have the compressor and air line to worry about. I currently run arb's front and rear. No isues to date, but I expect at some point way down the road it will need something. For both lockers the biggest part is the install. get someone who has done a lot of them. The air line install, just flex the suspension out and give some slack for the air line. Mine are on a TJ so the line is routed on top of my control arms then up to the frame.
