Rangers had the Ford 8.8...and not the good one. If you are looking for an 8.8 to swap you need to get one out of an explorer. They have 31 spline axles versus 27 spline in the rangers.

27 spline sucks. it is the same as the dana 35 which everybody calls CRAP

like he said, get one out of an explorer or a mountaineer

Sorry if the links above spell this out I didn't have time to look at them, but a lot of the earlier model Rangers had a 7.5" in them and not the 8.8. Then after they started putting 8.8 in the Ranger that later years got the 31 spline version like the Explorer instead of the "28" spline option.

I found out its just a dana 35 on the jeep from your pic thanks. but it was not a ranger sorry it was a bronco 2 and it has as far as i can tell the 7. whatever rear in it. But I think I found a dana 60 in a 3/4 ton van but people tell me they are everywhere. I really want to find a dana 44 front and rear.

what size tires are you runnin? a dana 60 will be overkill for something like 31's...i'd go for the 44 unless your runnin huge tires

You need to find yourself a wagoneer to scavenge the axles from. There are write-ups all over the internet on which years are the best. If I remember correctly after '76 gets you the better knuckles to make a high steer conversion easier. I have mine located at a local salvage yard. I just need to locate some $$$$$$$ before someone else scoops them up. Luckily there aren't many serious Jeep guys around here.
