From what I've read they are an oddball D44 with little support for gears or something.... and its a 6-bolt wheel pattern.

ya, not all 44's are desirable. i'm not sure on all them either, just like grand cherokees had them, and they're easy to get, but they're supposed to be pretty weak.

DocDave, you referring to ZJ D44's? If so, they were D44A's which had aluminum center sections that made them crap. Wagoneer or FSJ's had true D44's which are plenty strong.

i have been doing a bit more research..they are all steel, with big 2 3/4" tubes..gear ratios of 4:10, 4:27..and large axles and discs..so far the only draw back is the bolt pattern..6 on 5 1/2..the one i was trying to buy is sold..so i think i am going to polish my 35 a bit more~
