hi all,

I am looking to change the tires on my 91 wrangler. The stock tires are disgusting looking in my opinion so I'd like to get them changed asap. What would happen if i just slap a set of 32x1250x15 goodyears on them?

if you put 32's on a stock YJ, theyd rub... To answer your question, yes, you need a lift for 32's. The largest you can go without rubbing is 31's, although if you take it off road I've heard it'll still rub a little.

Oh that's cool I didn't know that, thanks for the info.

correct me if I'm wrong: based off of what you just told me, I come to understand that for every inch in tires that you want to add, you need to add the same size in a lift. To explain better, 31" on a stock wrangler so 33" tires with a 2" lift and 37" tires on a 6" lift. Does that make sense?

actually, to be able to use your jeep off road you need 2" for 31's, 4" or trimming for 33's and figure on trimming for anything bigger.
I guess you can get by with less if you stay on the pavement, but then why do you have a jeep?

I run 31" mudders on my stock YJ and all i had to do was trim about an inch from my flares. No problems offroad either!

I got a set of Bushwhacker flat flares to pass state inspection and they fit my 31's almost no problem. I had to trim a small piece to allow full lock when flat. If Im at full lock and max flex i get a little rub. The flat fenders give it an illusion of being higher and fit the 31's nicely.
