I have a chance to pick up A 92 Wrangler yj for 1700 dollars. Its not in bad shape, a little surface rust around the hinges, but if I pick it up, I plan on a paint job anyways. Its got the 2.5 4 cylinder, 5-speed 4 by 4 with 145,000 miles. Runs good drives good. Is this a good deal?
Check for rusted out floor pans UNDER carpet.....
Check for serious frame rot........
Check to make sure it will go into 4 Hi....4 LO...... and DRIVE it in them. This will check for AXLE/GEARING mismatches.
Everything else is kind of superfluous ......
"For Gawd's sake, put a RELAY in there or you could burn the whole damn Jeep to the ground" ...this quote brought to you by people who do not understand the law.....Kirchoff's, Ohm's, or Faraday's.
Violation of KISS shall always ring false in TRUE engineering. - ME___
Had 75CJ5, 89YJ, 93YJ. Have 82CJ7 & 95YJ____Not one burnt yet due to lack of relays.
Yeah that is very cheep, at least from where i am from. Look for rust on the frame cuz that is a killer, rust on the floor is not a deal breaker as long as they are not huge holes in the foot wells. Also check that the 4X4 works and that all light work, also ask where he parks it and look for leaking fluids. BEST OF LUCK MY FRIEND!
Alright I did check it out , put it in 4 wheel low hi, took it to a mechanic who put it on a lift . No frame rot, no rust other than a little surface rust around the hinges, its got new bushings all around, new shocks, new clutch, new clutch master, and a new top.
Only thing I've had to do to it since I got it, was to change all the fluids, oil change and tune up, and the radiator had a slight leak, so I replaced it. Its a good rust free platform to do a build on
