drbandkgb 1990 YJ "Cooper"

Thought Id start a build thread here in Wrangler land..

Hello all my name is Dave Im a Land Surveyor here in Middle Tennessee.
Ive been off roading /Working in the area since 1997.. Ive always needed a 4x4 to drive in the hills of TN. Ive had F-150s, Amigos, and Nissans.. It was time to try something new so I went with an 1990 Wrangler..
As it was time to replace my last ride 2001 Nissan Xterra I wanted something a little cheaper to Mod.. Nissan has about zero aftermarket support although I loved my Xterra and it had been a great ride...
The Day I bought it..

So Jeeps eh? I knew it had to be a YJ... I have a soft spot in my heart for the square lights Even though the idea of coil springs was very tempting..
I also knew I wanted the 6 CYL.. Ideally I wanted a 1995 with the fuel injection and the cool roll cage but it just wasnt ment to be.. But what I did find was this sweet 1990 Wrangler Sahara

Like most 20 year old trucks it had a few issues.. For one it still had the stock Carter Carb on it.. ( The dealer tried and tried to make it run right)
So their answer to this was to go out and buy a Referbed Carter.. Now me not knowing a lot about Jeeps.. I hit the inter-webby thing.. (Its how I found this cool site) As I read the Carter was just a bad Carb... It ran ok with the it it but ok isnt going to be good enough for me.. Holley time! Running much smoother
Now this Jeep came with 3 BFG Ko 35s and one funky brand MT.. Im thinking of running some 32 KM2s on it.. I know it will bring it down some But im guessing it will help in the ride.. Either way The KM2s will be the next tire on it.. Maybe a 33 inch tire.. All I know is 35s cost way too much..
This bad boy looks to have a 5" SL and a 3" BL..
So I bring this bad boy home and what happens? I smell gas.. I figured it was burning rich so id give that a few days.. To my surprise drip drip.. Gas tank was leaking.. After checking to it I found a nice pin hole in the tank.. Rust had killed it.. So 100 dollars and a few hours later that issue was solved..

As of tomorrow "Cooper" will have some steel rims Hello the 90s called.. they want these rims back
CB installed... goodies ordered lets see where I can take this YJ

Bought this on Amazon for 156 including shipping

Took the Jeep to Coal Creek

nice jeep, bwxt time you bo wheelin' try discoing your front sway bar before you hit the trail, it will make a huge diferrence in it's off-road handling.

P.S.

Ditch those xterra guys, they are kinda wierd. Just kidding Welcome to the forum.

Xterra guys rock man Jeep guys do too..

I love wheeling with anyone that is down to earth... I dont like to wheel with the guy that thinks his truck is gods gift.. 80% of it is driver 10% is the truck and 10% is luck

He is my last trip to Woolys in Middle TN
Here are a few updated pix...

I added a rear tire carrier Has really help the bouncy-ness of the Jeep... Why do people take these off???
Really made it wheel better too!

The first trip in the Jeep just sucked... The next one has made me enjoy the Jeep..
Takes some time getting used to the Leaf spring ride..
