e brake issues

once again in doing a little maitence since coming home from college and finally can use my garage, my e brake is loose like it will hold if hte jeep is rolling forwards but backwards it just rolls away and i couldnt get the nut tightened wondering if anyone had a trick to get it any tighter or is it just a run to car quest for a new one. thanks

I had to take my adjuster out to break everything loose then put it back together and use an adjustable cresant wrench on one end and the appropriate open end on the other.

I'm starting to have problems with the pedal popping back up. Parked in the driveway last night and thankfully it was in gear or I would have found the YJ t-boned into my neighbors F-150.
