Hi i am new to the forum and need some advice..i have a stock 1989 Jeep Wrangler 4.0,5 speed everything stock with about 110,000 miles on it..i use it for everyday transportation and never real rough roads..i have been thinking of getting a new NOT rebuilt 350 crate engine installed for better reliability.i live in the Black Hills of S.D. and was wondering if some of you can give me a ball park figure of what that engine swap would cost having someone do it ??? the 4.0 straight 6 in it now runs real good...do you think i should just keep that ? if you think i should keep it are there any parts u can recommend i should replace like fuel pump ? how many miles are the stock 4.0's good for ? thanks to all..Joe
the main consideration on how long your engine will last is MAINTENANCE. if it has been well taken care of you should have many, many miles left on that engine. only replace parts if you are having problems. you could put a v8 in, but be prepared to spend a lot of dough. remember you will have to change out transmission, transfer case, drive shafts, ect. unless the 6 is smoking or using a lot of oil, I'd stick with it.
i have heard nothing but good about this engine from owners, mechanic sand parts people...i just get a lil nervous with it having so many miles..i do alot of preventive maintaince..i have been checking old posts in trying to determine what MAY go out next..i think now i will keep the 4.0..so thanks to all that posts...
I'm at 111,000 on my 94, Joes. I don't think I have noticed a diffrence in it from when it had 50,000 on it. I think it's a good call in keeping the engine. They really do last.
There is a thread to post your YJ mileage in here somewhere. I'll find it and bump it to the top. It hasn't been posted in for a while.
wooooohooooooooooo ! that's the info i hoped for guys..thanks soooo much..yes please find that link on milage i love stuff like that..my former pastor in S.D. once said 150,000 miles on a vehicle is just gettin brokin in !!! i started anothet thread on somewhat predicting when things should be replaced ie.fuel pump approx.130,000 miles or ??? this is for a 89 4.0
