engine swap help & advice...

i have a 95 YJ w/ the little 4cyl. it's been a decent engine till a couple months ago. i put 32's on it w/ a 4" lift. now wont get out of it's own road..when i went from Ohio to NC was painfull...alot of times driving in 3rd-4th gear and sometimes in 2nd. now starting to get a high pitch noise from under engine..unsure from where. just starting to look i maybe putting more money into engine than it's worth.

i always wanted to do a 350 swap i figure maybe time to start looking @ options. i'm still a complete noob when it comes to swaps like this, i'm used to working on import cars. i figure if i do the swap i will need a 350, new tranny etc. i'm unsure if there is a certian kind i should be looking for? should i keep this a 5 speed or change to automatic? what else i may need. gears i may need to run.

right now the YJ is my every day driver but someday would like to take it on a trail for the 1st time.

guess just wondering what ppl use and sugest for engine & Tranny. i have done searches and alot of stuff i find list several kinds of engines etc..and i dont know if i should stay away from some and go w/ others...figure best way to find out is ask everyone here. this site is always a great source of information

thanks for any info.

This swap has a million ways to do it. Search online, as it has been done a million times I am sure, so plenty of plowed ground already.

A complete swap from the Jimmy or Blazer small SUV is the easiest choice as you can buy running donors and have every piece you need. BUT they are V6's. A really big V6. The 4.3 is a great motor.
Or like others use a Cherokee and swap a Jeep 4.0 into it. even the nice, and super tough 4 speed auto can be used. I can buy complete units around here for 1200 bucks running. And sell off the body and misc parts and make 80% of that back.

But count on it nickle and dimeing you to death. And be in a shop for a while
