Exhaust tips?

...As in "advice"...not a stupid chrome pipe end, LOL. My 92 4.0 has a leak in the exhaust so I'm going to be replacing some of the components. Is it worth it performance- and fuel economy-wise to step up to something in the "performance" aftermarket on exhaust stuff, or am I just as well off sticking with stock stuff? Here in MD we do have emissions tests so I have to have a catalytic converter...other than that, free flow stuff is okey-dokey. Just wondering if it's worth the price offset.

There is an old saying that I really think applies to this. Don't replace anything, upgrade everything. Going to a better muffler is always a plus from the stock, choked up one. And always leave your catholic convertor alone. That is why all the kits are called cat back systems. Yes, the extra effort is worth it, and your stock muffler is usually more expensive than Flowmaster, and you will love the sound difference. Sounds more beefy, instead of like a sewing machine.
