I screwed up my soft top. I have the top off and had finished cleaning it throughly. It looked real good, so I had the bright idea to spray it with some Scotchguard to help repel water. Well it repels water but now it is gray instead of black!! It is a Bestop brand on a 1993 YJ. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the black back??
aalmutawakil, What do you suggest that I polish it with? I've scrubbed it with Tuff Stuff in an effort to remove all of the Scotchguard I can so that I can put something on it to bring it back to the black color. Right not it looks like it has been out in the weather for about 10 years. Thanks for any suggestions.
Well sent Scotchgard a message with a question about how to remove the stuff from my top. THeir reply:
Thank you for contacting 3M, the innovation company.
We do not recommend using our Scotchgard products on convertable tops. You may try cleaning the top per the vehicle manufacturers recommended cleaning instructions.
Well.........I can't comment on the response you got from Scotchgard, but what I can do is tell ya what I did. I actually used Kiwi shoe (black) polish to get it back to black. Trust me this takes a bit of time (like polishing a GIANT shoe), but it worked nicely and is water resistant. Did they have that in the disclaimer on the can? Just curious.
