Fix or replace d35

Ok so my d35 pinion bearings finally failed, I knew they eventually would. But when I pulled the diff cover I found marks in the carrier where the pinion contacted it and lots of little metal chunks came out. I run 36 12.50 swampers on spyderlock wheels which are a bad combo for a d35 already so I don't want to put money into something that will eventually fail again. So my question is what axle? 8.8 or should I just save up and go to 1 tons?
The front axle is the stock d30 with a Aussie locker.

If you are going to continue to run the 36/12.50 swampers, I would save up to get 1 ton running gear. The swampers are a heavy tire. I have had a few sets, and it takes a lot of torque to get them turning.

The 8.8 will handle them, but the D30 will be the next axle that you will be fixing in the not so distant future.

Switching to tons will eliminate the weak links in the drive train. Except for finding an 8 bolt 15" wheel. They are becoming scarce anymore.

The carrier in the 8.8 is the weak link. If you swap it out for a locker or similar, you can run 40's (I have seen them on a YJ). The 8.8 has the bigger shafts and bearings to handle the added weight. It just depends on how hard you wheel.

The weak link in your drivetrain would be the D30 if you did an 8.8 swap.

Chromo's are expensive.
For a less expensive alternative, grab one piece axle shafts from a 96-99 Cherokee, or TJ. You will also get larger and stronger u joints this way.
Now, once this is done, throw an aussie locker in the dana 30 and swap the rear for an 8.8 with either elocker or limited slip and you are ready for lots of fun.

Ya the dana 30 already has an Aussie so axle shafts are next, prob grab them tday from local yard, last night I pulled and inspected the d35 broken spider gear, pinion bearings and looks like the pinion hit the carrier. Also the little bolt that holds the pin in for the spider gears is sheared off so I can't even take the carrier out, now searching for an 8.8!
