To do it with a flag would really be different. What I would do with it is quad stitch straps on it (backpack straps) then you just tighten it down like a normal top. I would put 6 total on it. 3 in the front and 3 in the back

If you do it with an American flag you might find yourself in some trouble. Might want to look up Flag Etiquette on the internet first to save yourself some grief. I knew of one guy that used the flag in a way that he thought was kind of cute. A veteran didn't think it was cute and took it down with a large knife. He stood in front of a news camera with the flag in one hand and the knife in the other, and challenged the guy to come and get his flag. The guy wouldn't come outside. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah. It's really not appropriate to use any flag as clothing or decoration.

An American flag top. Might not be what you have in mind but just an idea.

I like the idea of the flag top, I'd like to do it with a Confederate flag but it would be difficult to get the right size, secure it, no flapping at higher speeds, etc... Be worth a try if you've got free time and money.

the flag was not meant to be used as a bikini top. getting a flag print bikini top is one thing, but taking an actual American Flag and using it as a top is not, imo, a good idea and is disrespectful.

in theory, i like the idea of using a flag as a bikini top, but not the American Flag.

This is what I would do, If I wanted to use a flag (not an actual american flag, I am a veteran and these guys are right, there is "flag etiquette").

If you really want it to work like a real bikini top and not just flap around uncontrollably the key is the part that connects to the top part of your windshield. I would buy a actual mesh bikini top that has the part that connect to the railing on your winshield and straps for your roll bar, then get your flag sewn onto the top of it. Get a tailor to do a nice double stitch or something. I think this would make you a nice, durable, fully functional "flag top".

my two cents.......

ok, cool. i guess when we hear "a flag" we, as Americans, automatically think of the American Flag, which imo, is how it should be. the American Flag should be the first flag that comes to mind.

anyway, i think it would be really cool to use some kind of flag for a soft top.

As retired Navy, I'm glad to see so many are setting the record straight. I agree, don't do it.
Quick story, this past Memorial Day, at the parade, there was a lady with a flag sewn on the ass of her shorts. I wondered if she thought that was patriotism. Again, as a veteran, I personally was offended.

My original idea was to use a Colorado flag, I respect the american flag and I especially wouldn't do that cause my father is a veteran, anyways would there be any way to hold the flag to the windshield channel from a soft top like could you attach the plastic that goes on that to the flag? Just trying to get ideas here

I see people driving around with flags attatched to their cars on the back ect.. what would be the difference in using a flag as a top? I understand not using the american flag, but let's say I want to use a bob marley flag or a not country/state flag i'm just trying to customize a way to keep the sun off my head.

Flying a flag and using a flag as something else are two different things. You're turning a flag that represents something into an object. Why can't you just get a top with a flag printed on it?

I mean it's up to you, but it's against proper flag etiquette and in my opinion disrespectful.

National Flags, State flags etc.. they are proper, officially sanctioned flags, and should not be degraded.

On my old YJ, my wife sewed a strip of leather on the leading edge of a piece of desert camo canvas and then straps for the back. I ran screws through the leather into the mounting holes for windshield header strip, Worked well.
I wouldn't use any flag for this purpose, printed fabric is fine but it should be pretty heavy duty, My bikini top was under quite a bit of stress at speed.

Yeah, I'm not trying to bust your chops.. but there are a lot of other cool things you can do aside from just buying a top. Like using camo, or some flag printed cloth.. just don't deface an actual flag.
