Flowmaster has an off name brand version called Afterburner. Depending on the pipe size and model of muffler you can pick one up for between $20-60. It's the same mufflers they sell with the Flowmaster name only cheaper.

Personally what I would do is to ask the guys at the muffler shop if they sell anything that is going to give you the same sound/performance that you are looking for cheaper than that. And if they don't have anything then all things being equal between those two mufflers go with the cheaper one. I've had good experience with both, but am running a cherry bomb on my TJ right now and it's fine with me.

I have a muffler leak and it sounds like a shitcan muffler on a toyota. To think, they pay hundreds of dollars to sound the way I do for free.

No doubt! That is how my YJ sounded right after the driveshaft u-joint let go at the transfer case and punched a fist sized hole in mine! Sounds like an old lady farting!

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

I have the flowmaster on mine. It sounds really nice with the header in front of it and the high flow cat. I have actually had a couple of people ask me if I had a V-8. I eliminated my tail pipe too. I had Midas bend a 90 in some 2.5" tubing and exited it between the leaf spring and the frame in front of the rear tire.

For a nice European sound you can look at monza mufflers. My 77 Datsun 280Z has an I-6 and that's the best sounding exhaust I've found for it. Of course it's only 2.8L (soon to be 3.1L) not 4.0L, but the general flow pitch should about the same.
