I've been working with a buddy to rebuild a 91 JK, but he shifted direction and bought a pretty nice '88 YJ with a blown motor. He has a 92 4.0L and the plan is to use that motor for the YJ, but we already see there are compatibility issues with the pilot shaft and bearing being different sizes and that raises all the other compatibility questions.

Without going into a lot of detail I'll ask this general question. What are the concerns when dropping a '92 4.0L and a '91 5-spd manual trans into a '88 YJ (the YJ also has a 5-spd manual?

I realize there may be a whole lot to discuss on the subject I posted, but any information is appreciated.

Advanced thanks for the help.

I've never done it, but I don't think it would be too much of a problem if you're using the engine, trans, TC, and harness from the donor vehicle. The pilot shaft/bearing issue would be a moot point since you're using the donor motor and trans. Otherwise, you could just change out the pilot bearing/bushing to the correct size.
