Front axle upgrade

So.... I just got my wheels aligned at Pep Boys, and found out the camber on my front right wheel is off (not sure if it's positive or negative). The mechanic who worked on my jeep (who had a nice looking YJ himself) told me most likely something is off on my axle, and need to either reinforce my axle or just get a new one.

This leads me to my question... Eventually I would lilke to upgrade my axles with an 8.8 in the rear and something up front. I can't see myself with 35s anytime soon, as this is my DD and I need to get into parking garages and such (pushing my luck as it is ), but for the front, should I just get new 30 axles? What are my options really? A super 30? A Dana 44?

This won't be done anytime too soon, but just wanted to get some info... Thanks guys

i was wondering same thing. i'm starting to build my yj. and so far a friend sugested a Ford 8.8 in rear and a high pinion up front (i think thats what he said)

95 YJ, 4" suspension lift, 32's, 2.5l 4 cyl (350 built and waiting to be installed in spring, along with ford 8.8 rear end)

Wagoneer Dana44's front and rear = done.

I'm not sure all of what is involved with swapping in Waggy axles, but I'm sure they are a little wider.

The rear Waggy swap is pretty straight forward... Brakelines, shock mounts, spring pads... The front is a little more intensive... Best way to deal with it is to outboard the spring and shackle hangers on the frame so the mods to the housing and springs are minimum...

Unless you got a real heavy right foot and are running 33"+ tires there is no reason to replace the d30. Find out what is wrong and fix it up.

well i am running 32", looking to go to 33's next set around, esp when i trim up my fenders some for the new bolt on flares, but i don't drive that fast i don't think... haha

i was thinking of maybe some superior axle 30 shafts? i dunno... haha

ok, i disagree with outboarding the frame mounts and stuff to make wider axles fit, i always modify the axle and leave the frame alone on a yj. cj's can be a different story. grinding the pumpkin and welding perches is not a big deal. and leaves the original suspension mounting geometry alone.

gotta avoid waggy rear axles that are offset, and there is no real bolt in upgrade for either yj axle, the rear isn't hard, there's more to consider up front. most importantly is caster angle.

you could simply keep your d30, but upgrade to later model shafts that use larger u joints, and the one piece right side shaft instead of the cad.

I agree Doc. I replaced the stock d30 shafts with TJ d30 shafts. A lot stronger & no more stupid center disconnect.
