front fender question

Hey everybody,

Just a quick question... My two front fenders (not the flares, the actual fenders) have rusted through a bit. They were like that When I bought the jeep, and it looks like the person I bought it from tried to do a quick bondo job, and it looks horrible and crackly. Anyway, I am paintin the truck this summer, and was going to clean that whole area up and re bondo and putty the right way, but I found some fenders on sale on craigslist, both for $200 with no rust. (like 5 and 6 on the list... http://www.quadratec.com/advisor/jee...J_steeltub.php)

I got up under the fenders today, and to me, it looks like the fenders just bolt in, no welding required. This leads to my question. Am I correct in assuming that, or does it have to be welded? Thanks in advance

oh, is anybody looking for the stock intake box or stock jack kit for the yj's? I have it and was wondering if someone wants it before I junk it

your right, the fenders are super easy, they just bolt on and off. there's some rods from the fire wall to the fender, and bolts inside along the tub to fender, and i believe along grill to fender.

those aftermarket tins are super cheap, and they are almost guaranteed to rust eventually, do yourself a favor and scuff them up, put a couple coats of primer on them yourself before painting, they come w/ very cheap primer on them, don't trust it.

clean used oe tins are best, but next to impossible to find for a yj witout rust.

Yes, ruff em up and reprimer them before you paint them. AND run a wire wheel on the underside and herculine it. That is what I am doing this weekend.

Your other option would be to go to a tube style flat fender that would provide asdditional clearance. Since you're going to all the trouble of replacing them anyway.

Hey thanks. It came to me in the paint isle of a farm/tractor supply store. The paint was on sale for 19.99 a gallon and I was seeing what colors they had and I saw that color and had the vision of what is now sitting in my driveway.

I've been shopping for fenders for a few months but I decided to use my old ones instead. Theres no rust on them but I cut them out and now I want to put the flares on them. I'll just have to modify the flares a little bit but it'll work.
