Yeah mine does the same thing. Probably cause its a manual sending unit and the gas is sloshing around. Thats my guess, not positive though. My Jeep is also empty on 1/8 tank, which I found out the hard way.

my gas tank goes empty on 1/8 of a tank as well, i thought it was just because the guage was a little off, but apparently its a common problem.
yes, the gas sloshes around quite a bit in the tank, so you wont get a true reading on the gas guage unless you are level. uphill or downhill and the guage will bounce around... yeah, i try not to let it down past a 1/4 tank anymore, i've learned the hard way...not fun, lol.

Mine does as well but from what I've heard Its because they use the same sending unit for the 15 gal tank as the 20 gal tank. Not sure if thats true. Are your tanks also the 20 gal ??

I'm not sure what the capacity on my tank is. I read somewhere that its a recall on the YJs for the fuel gauge to not read empty when empty. Theres probably a writeup somewhere about it. Its the internet. Theres everything.

mine is a 15 gal tank and it does the same thing but it doesnt bounce around like that...

and its easy to see what kind of tank you got.. let it run to empty before you hit up a gas station, thats how i found out.. but not on purpose
