gas tank or fuel gauge

i have a 89 wrangler, the fuel gauge doesn't read the fuel correct. i have to refill when i reads half a tank. im pretty sure the gauge is ok, but im worried about the ballon or whatever is in the tank which relays to the gauge. any ideas what i may be and how to fix it. thanks

Bro, do not worry about the gas tank. I have the same problem. I also have a 89 wrangler. Not only does my gas gauge bob around like rabbit on crack, so does my battery gauge. Changing the gauges will save you alot of money.

Sounds like the same prob I had with my '89 YJ gauge. Mine would peg the needle past full and then not read any less until I got to about a 1/4 tank, then would start to go down. After testing the gauge and checking the sender in the tank, found the sender bad. Replaced the sender and everything has worked fine since then.
