getting ready to purchase

Getting ready to purchase a Wrangler. Probably in the year range of 1990 to 1995. Six or four cyclinder not too concerened about personally, but must be manual tranny and have factory ac. My price range will get one with 120,000 to 150,000 miles.

So, for those with experience in this year range, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Being located in Southern California, are there any issues in the '90 to '95 models, with the 4 or 6 cylinder, that I should be aware of for smog check purposes? I have seen several adds in the southern California region that have given me the perception that there may be something unusual, beyond cats wearing out or other issues that make passing smog check difficult.

At 51, have purchased a lot of used cars in my life so I have a general list of items that I look for. As I have never owned a Wrangler, are there specific issues I should be looking for or be aware of? I won't be purchasing one that has had any significant modifications, looking mostly for factory stock/one that appears to have been used mostly for highway driving.

Thank you for toerating questions from a Newbie, and any information you can pass along would be greatly apprecated.

Thank you!!!!

JT

go with 91-95 for fuel injection, 90 still has the carb, which will be a chore to pass
cali smog every time
if you do any highway driving, look for the 4.0
manual should be easy to find
factory a/c, not so easy to find, but can be added easily

rust is normally the biggest issue, but probably not in in southern CA
