Good cheap winch

What would be a good cheap winch? I don't won't to pay top dollar but I don't won't one that last 10 times then quits.

I've been hearing good things about the Smittybuilt winch. Check it out.

Good and Cheap can't go in the same sentence together. That is how a Rough Country lift ended up on my jeep.

I have a chicago electric and like it alot so for the money I would go with it or the smittybuilt. They both are a little slow but they will get you out. you can also search the web and look for the article "winches in hell" they abuse a few winches so that might be something to look at.

i have a 12.000 lbschina winch like the smittybilt. it works fine and i don´t have problems with it. a friend has the same winch on his pickup for 4 years now and he works with it in the woods every day.
my winch a bit louder and a bit slower than another friends warn M12.000, but that´s not important to me. i paid 280$ for my winch instead of 1200$ for a warn. and it does it´s job very good. and it came with a radio remote control.

Warn sells a Tabor 9k thats pretty decent. Good line speed and is covered by Warns warrenty. Got me out a bunch of times. I have no complaints for the $500 spent, (even got the mounting plate thrown in)

9.000 lbs isn´t enough if you go wheeling together with heavier/bigger jeeps in deep mud.
a fried got stuck with his granny in 2ft deep mud. his milemarker 9000 wasn´t strong enough. he needed a tool like this (don´t know the english word for it):

my 12.000 china winch had no problem to pull him out of the mud without that tool.

I have one and even if I had a 12k winch, I'd still use it. Takes alot of stress off the winch.

if there is too much stress at the winch the winch will change it´s sound.
i never heard that on my winch before. my friends 9.000 lbs winch sounds lik eit would brake some seconds later before he user that thing. btw. what´s this tool called in english?

I call it a snatch block, not really sure what the proper term is.

My chicago electric is 9k pound and I have a 10k pound that i bought for my dad. Plus if its going on a jeep 9k is plenty especially if you use a snatch block.
